About Us

Hey guys! We're Brandon Soto and Julia Jones. Welcome to The Tasty Island, where we blog about our food experiences while on our externship from The Culinary Institute of America at The Ritz Carlton in Maui!

About Brandon:
Im 19 years old from Portland, Oregon. I love skateboarding, enjoying the SUN, and of course, food! Im really into molecular gastronomy and love playing around with food with my chemicals. My goals are to work in restaurants around the world, i just want to travel and see all there is to see.

About Julia:
Im 18 years old. I was born and raised in about every unknown city imagined in southern California, lived in Hawaii for about 5 years, ended up in Washington for 2 years where i headed to Hyde Park, NY to attend the worlds best culinary school.
I love cheerleading, food, wine, and THE BEACH!
Ive been a cheerleader all my life and everyone can tell because im always so peppy. Ive always been known for eating my family out of house and home and they could never figure out where i put it all :P Dont get me wrong, i think its great to have a good balance between happy eating and exercise but lets face it.. im lazy. But cheerleading was something that kept my metabolism up and i enjoyed it!

We've been going to school together since our sophomore year in High School. Went to The Clark County Skills Center our junior and senior year where we learned our basis of food at one of the most amazing vocational schools on the west coast! They taught us about The CIA before we even knew what it was. We like to thank Chef McColley and Greg Retchless for our success in school. and of course Robbin!

Now we take every opportunity, while in school, to compete, learn more about food, taste it, and appreciate it. Together. <3
