This morning Julia and I went to the beach to watch the sunrise over the side of the island. As we were walking through the huge span of rock we came across these little guys. They are sea urchins, their gonads are tasty and popularly used in sushi where it is often called "Uni". They were everywhere!
For lunch after our first day of work Julia and I went to the Napili Shores restaurant- the sea house. We went during their happy hour and we enjoyed the happy hour small plates they call "Pupus". This was the cheese plate, the mozzarella with this pesto and Romesco sauce was absolutely delicious.
Today, when we went shopping Julia said I absolutely had to try Ahi Poke, a marinated tuna salad. Then, at the restaurant we had it again in the form of these "Ahi Poke nachos" crispy wontons with seaweed and Ahi poke, on a bed of wasabi aioli. Tasty.
This was Julias Crunchy sushi roll with a side of wakame salad. Basically a battered and fried california roll.
These steamed cherrystone clams were cooked well and tender. But the real highlight of this dish was the broth- hot, with complex ginger, garlic, and lemon flavor. The kind of broth you drink after the bread and clams are already gone.
It was a tasty day indeed!
